I am planning a trip that includes a visit to Egypt, a safari destination (realtically Kenya or Tanzania, or Kenya and Victoria Falls), and I would like to add Jordan to the trip. I would fly from Cairo to Amman, and then from Amman to ? to begin the safari.
I am aware there is a ferry from Egypt to Jordan, but I have read many bad things about delays, the ferry terminal's conditions, etc. I would prefer to fly.
I would have about 7 or 8 days to see Jordan, but I can spend less time there too. I would like to know if it is better to arrange a private tour in advance where hotels/tours are prearranged or is Jordan easy to travel around independently? I am particularly interested in Wadi Rum and Petra.
Are there any companies fodorites could recommend for Jordan?
Thank you.

Trip Ideas
I've looked into an itinerary similar to this, and what I've found is you will need to do the following:
Amman - Cairo - Nairobi
Each of those flights is direct, but the Cairo - Nairobi flight is a redeye that lands in Nairobi early in the morning. From Nairobi you can take a flight to the Masai Mara or drive to another park. TO see Vic Falls you'd need to get to Johannesburg and from there to either Zambia or Zimbabwe. If you have your heart set on that, then I recommend going from Amman to Dubai, and Dubai to Johannesburg.
As for Jordan, it is pretty easy to do independently and the driving distances are pretty short. You can do Wadi Rum and Petra easily in four to six days depending on if you want to hike and or sleep in Wadi Rum.
We used Lady Egypt who organized our Egypt and Jordan tours. Was very well done. We found Jordan to be really refreshing and great . I would recommend Petra, Wadi Rum, Dead Sea ( Movenpick hotel was perfect) , Jerash and Ajloun.
