Check bag thru or pick up in Joburg

Last minute question:
IF VirginAtlantic will check my bag all the way through to Livingstone, should I do that or pick it up at JNB and recheck it on Nationwide? I was thinking picking it up in Joburg to make sure it at least got that far, but then would have to go thru baggage claim, immigration, security etc. instead of just transitting. Have a 4 hour 25 minute layover. Last trip through JNB only had carryon bags. Suggestions?

Hi Dennis,

It really is very very easy and convenient in JNB. Especially, after the many connections you may hv prior to JNB, i would advise you collect them and re-chk with Nationwide....you also have a longish transit time, anyways.

Enjoy your trip.....especially,all the wild dogs.....

If I had been flying from the middle of the Pacific thru London onto JNB and then LIV... I'd pick-up the bag in JNB and recheck. Just for the peace of mind that it got that far. With 4.5/hrs you have more than enough time, even if the flight into JNB is late to collect, recheck and go thru security again.

Still can't believe you're off again. Good for you!!!

I'm not even sure you can through-check to Nationwide. Ring up Virgin and ask them. It might be a non-issue.
