All reports indicate Casablanca is a stop best passed through quickly. But because of air schedules we believe it would be best to come in two nights early before hooking up with our small group tour there and on to the recommended sites including Marrakesh, Fes and Essaouria among others. We will arrive in Casablanca on Friday March 15 and if prior experience holds, we will be useless until late afternoon. We plan on the Hassan II Mosque with tour on Saturday. We are wondering about the Habous, the medina and even Corniche We enjoy mild urban hiking, people watching and photography. (My husband is a cemetery photo freak). We will be on our own booking a hotel for these 2 nights so a suggestion as to area would be welcome then I can start doing my homework on that. We will taxi when needed about town and definitely back to the airport on Sunday, March 17.

Hello Kay;
You have to know that most of Travelers skip Casablanca, they think it has nothing to offer for a Visitor. But i disagree; because Casablanca has a lot of things to offer you can check the following attractions:
- Hassan II Mosque ( White Mosque).
- Cornish Ain-Diab.
- Rick's Cafe.
- Judaism Museum Centre.
- City Hall.
- Old Medina ( Habous).
- Royal Palace ( for Groups only).
- Morocco Mall ( New Attraction to see in Casablanca).
In Case your group tour does not include Rabat as one of the places to visit, i'd recommend to have a day trip there, Rabat is the Capital of Morocco, and it's one of the most interesting imperial cities.
My advice is to buy a guide Book to use during your travels.
My advice would be to stay in Rabat instead, which is what I did. (Click on my name for my TR.) There is good train service between the two. Won't your tour take you to the mosque?

Thanks so much Alex and thursday and am taking your advice to heart. Our group tour lands on Sunday and immediately heads to Rabat so our day and 1/2 in Casablanca precedes a Rabat stay. Of course we will have guide books even on a guided tour. We have Eyewitness, more for background than guiding. Still debating between Frommer and Fodor. both always good. Not so much of a Lonely Planet Fan as we are too old to trek or stay in budget hotels
but I will try to get a copy of that walking tour...have heard good things about it. Still wondering about what area for hotel in Casablanca. Appreciate your time. Kay
Actually, LP is no longer just a backpackers' bible - take a look. The main guides (not the shoestring series) have plenty of mid-range hotel choices. For areas you have a choice between downtown and the Corniche. I stayed downtown, but I certainly can't recommend my hotel!!! (Click on my name for my TR for more.)
