Casablanca to El-Jadida

We are arriving at the airport south of Casablanca in early November, hopefully on Nov 6. Our photo tour of Morocco starts on Nov 8. We'd like to spend a couple of days in El-Jadida (south of the airport) and then see Casablanca with the tour group later.

Can visitors take a bus direct to El-J or do you have to go north (the wrong way) into Casablanca first? If no bus, what would a taxi cost? It appears to be about an hour's drive, or 80km, on a major highway.

Any recommendations for a riad or interesting small hotel in El-Jadida?
We are coming into the region from Perth. What do travellers suggest as the best airline to use to come from there, perhaps have a 24 hr stopover somewhere in the Gulf, then continue on to Casablanca?
