Hi
My wife and I are going to Dubai in May. We have been there before (as you can see from this trip report from 2002 http://gardkarlsen.com/dubai.htm ) and that time we stayed in Bur Dubai. At the moment I have booked a room at Traders hotel in Dubai (on the Deira side) but I have also started looking at other hotels. I know it will be hot so maybe it would be better to stay nearer to the beach. We are planning on doing to regular sights....the museum, the gold market, the Burj Dubai, Burj Al Arab etc. We enjoyed staying in the city the last time as it was easy to find local restaurant. I'm just afraid that if we stay in the Jumeirah area we will just end up going to the more expensive restaurants that seems to only cater for tourist.
So the question is...if you were going to Dubai in the end of May, where would you stay and why? ![]()

I have only visited once (although I expect to make a return visit next May on my return from Sri Lanka, if I can put that trip together), and I will again stay in Deira, which is where I stayed last time. To me, that area felt like the Middle East, unlike, say, Jumeirah, where I visited but which did not seem dissimilar from Miami Beach. Frankly, I couldn't see making a return visit to sightsee in Dubai -- there's not much to see, but I would welcome a one or two day stopover.
Hi
And the hotel is not being very helpful either....
We have now decided to stay at Dusit Thani but we are now having quite a difficult time getting them to help us out with a visa as we have booked through a travel agency and not directly through the hotel. My wife has a citizenship that requires visa and it is proving to be quite a difficult task to get it. I thought that Dubai wanted to have lots of tourists coming to the country
