Pretty grim article in the NY Times about the crumbling economy of Dubai.
Was wondering if anybody out there can comment on the actual reputation of the hotels on Palm Jumeirah in Dubai.
The NY Times said that they have roaches coming out of the water faucets. "Lurid rumors"
Now, many expatriates here talk about Dubai as though it were a con game all along. Lurid rumors spread quickly: the Palm Jumeira, an artificial island that is one of this city’s trademark developments, is said to be sinking, and when you turn the faucets in the hotels built atop it, only cockroaches come out.
Can anybody confirm the "Roach" comments regarding Dubai Palm Jumeirah hotels?

I only got the info that economy is also having an impact on to Dubai.
Regarding the sinking .......
I am waiting for the news that the whole things are going to collapse.
Not that I wish for it. But how on earth can one build HUGE - and they are HUGE! - buildings onto sand?
It's going to collapse one day - for sure.
Especially as there is no such powerful thing like water. Especially underwater currents,....unpredictable.
Cockroaches - ooch...
Hope some of the Dubai experts jump in and enlighten us.

With layoffs coming thick and fast, Dubai's economy is in pretty bad shape. Construction has ground to a halt, the huge cranes that dotted the horizon stand motionless. Gone are the traffic jams and the bustling airport scenes. I don't know about roaches in the taps but Dubai certainly has plenty of hotels to choose from, and these days, they ALL have vacancies...!
And Dubai sits right on an earthquake fault.
Mother Earth will take back what is rightly hers.
Good-bye Palm Island and all those Islands of the World.
Roaches should be the worst of their problems!
