Big Red Bus tour

Has anyone done the Big red bus tour in Dubai?
Just wondering if that is the best way to spend a day and see all the sights?
We are staying at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and will have two full days there. We have booked a Desert Safari BBQ for our last night and want to explore on the first day.
Any suggestions welcomed.
Also should we just cab it from the airport to the hotel when we arrive around midnight or spend the $150 on the hotel's limo?
