Best spots for photographing the Nile river and Aswan city

Hello there!

Was wondering if anyone could advise where was the pic of the Nile river taken? http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisjunker/5117063182/

Or, any recommendations on the best spot to view or capture a similar or even better panorama of the Nile river and the city?

Your kind valuable information is highly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance, and good day!

That is in Aswan. I thought it might be from the Cataract Hotel, but the caption says it is from a bench in a park. I suspect if you walk up the street toward the Cataract you would find where this was. Or it might be from a bench in a garden AT the Cataract Hotel....since "parks" perse, are not exactly common in Egypt.

Thanks so much Casual_Cairo for the great advice, you are far too kind. Can't wait to check out the Cataract Hotel and surroundings and hopefully able to capture such lovely views of Aswan. Again, can't thank you enough for the help, and wishing you happy travel always!

The Cataract has a reputation for being very exclusive. They offer High Tea in the afternoon, and it used to be that people NOT staying at their hotel couldn't get in for this. If you are going any time soon, I recommend you try going for tea, as the last time I called and asked them, they said they were allowing others in these days, as everything is so slow, they don't mind -now. Don't be too surprised though if you get turned down, as that is their usual way of doing things.

Casual is correct. I have a very similar picture from a bench just down river of the Cataract. There is a small walking path with a few benches along the way. It's a great spot. If you could pan over to the left you would see the Movenpick.

We stayed at the Moevenpick on Elephantine Island. (The one with the big pool on the big island).

My best guess is the picture is taken about here:
32°53'21.00"E 24° 5'3.10"N
Copy and paste that into Google Earth. The view is north (NNE?), and you see the smaller island and the dock in front of the round building.

In Google earth, you can see the cruise boats quadruple-parked along the shore.

I think the Old Cataract Hotel is a but further SE along the river, where the ruins on Elephantine Island are, and there is a big swimming pool by the shore.

I agree with MD. I think it was not taken from Cataract, but for sure that place would be a great one too.
Actually the coordinates seems to be right. Plus there is a kind of park there, if you watch it by Google Earth..

Another good spot could be from St. Simon's Monastery. The Nile and nature are so beautiful there. Other spot could be from the Nubian Village, inthe South of Aswan. If you have the chance to go on the roof of any of the houses, you will get a panoramic view from the river in its wider point and the desert.

Good day all, I have just managed to came out with my trip planning and just remembered I posted this a while ago - to all, THANK YOU SO MUCH for the excellent advice and heads-up, these are absolutely wonderful tips! Some have mentioned that it might be Firyal Gardens.. I also noticed Kitchener's Island have some nice Nile views, too. Not forgetting, Nobles Tombs area and Kubbet El Hawa too. I shall consider the St Simone's Monastery visit since it should be enriching, and more worthwhile, compared to say, visiting Old Cataract hotel as may risk not being able to get in there, but that's just me Thanks again everyone. Until then, I wish you a sunny day today and happy travel always!
