Best Rooms at Mena Oberoi?

we plan to stay at mena oberoi near the pyramids, and we've been told to try to get in the old section, not the newer garden wing. anyone have any opinions on the best rooms at mena house? we really don't feel the need to upgrade to a pyramid view, as our agenda is packed, and we'll be sleeping instead of enjoying the view. still, we'd like to be in the most "atmospheric" rooms & section of the hotel. wondering if old section costs more? thanks so much!

We just stayed at the Mena House December 28 and 29, 2009. We had amazing pyramid view rooms...not sure of the cost as it was included in the total of our trip. Make sure you don't get the rooms that face the street! We had lunch at a restaurant across the street from the Mena House and our guide pointed out the newer section of the Mena House...thank goodness we weren't staying in one of those rooms! The noise of the traffic was obnoxious! FYI - I would not have misssed the view from our balcony of the pyramids! Waking up to a view of one of the great pyramids was my #2 highlight of the trip! Simply amazing!

I agree with Lollie14. The view of the pyramids from our room in the morning was one of the magical moments of our trip. But even if you don't care for the sights, avoid the street view rooms of the new wing. Too noisy.
If you stay at the old wing (Palace rooms) I guess all rooms will be good. If you stay in the new wing ask for rooms in the fourth (and last) floor, numbers 418 of higher for the best views.
Have in mind that ev en if you stay in the new wing, all the restaurants, cafes and shops are located in the old wing, so you will still have the oportunity to apreciate the Old Mena Atmosphere.

I checked into a garden room overlooking the courtyard about 11 PM ...it was dark and I was exhaustd.

Slept till 6 and and got up and opened my blinds. There was a green courtyard, the pool, the old wing and then those pyramids. I thought some one had done a matte painting during the nite!!!

It almost scared me so I shut the drapes and then opened them again....and the Big Triangle were still there!!!

One of my most favorite moments of travel!
