Best places to eat in Egypt?

I was wondering where to eat authentic Egyptian cuisine in Cairo in the Mohandseen area?
Most of the restaurants are just fast food.

Do you mean McDonalds? Because Egyptian fast food would certainly be authentic.

As I said, authentic Egyptian cuisine includes fast food.

See: http://www.alrahalah.com/2012/03/top-10-foods-in-egypt/

A lot of those are fast food, if by fast food you mean food not served in a sit down restaurant with table service. E.g. "Ful mudammas and Ta’meya are the original Egyptian fast food", plus kebabs, schwarma, etc.

Come to that, even if you eat in a McDonalds, it will not be like a McDonalds in the US.

In any case, if you put "restaurant: Mohandseen cairo" into google maps, and scroll south a bit, you get several places that look "authentic".

I was in Egypt on a tour in February/March and enjoyed "khosari," an Egyptian dish. It has a lot of carbs, but it is delicious. I think it is not difficult to find it.

If you have a chance, try Nubian food. That was also delicious.

I did end up at a McDonald's near the Cairo Airport because it was Friday and most places were closed. I don't go to MCD often when I am at home, but the food there in Cairo looked like it would in the US.

I have photos!
