Looking for suggestions for a beach vacation in January, easy to get to from London. Preferably not capetown. Also, if there was animal watching near by, that would be a plus

Dubai. I dont know so much about animal watching but you could go to camel and horse racing and I hear the fishing is good in winter.

There's no game-viewing in Dubai.

Take a look at KwaZuluNatal in South Africa -- vey easy to get to from the UK, and there are excellent game reserves nearby. If you want to combine safari and beach time, you might want to take a look at Phinda:

Although not familiar, there was some discussion awhile ago about a place like this in Mozambique. Rocco and a few others know more about this. Also, if I recall there are places like this on the coast of Kenya - I'll leave that one to the experts as well.

The Kenyan coast is easily combined with a short road safari to Tsavo East. And Shimba Hills is very close to the south coast.
