Bathrooms in Israel?

Compared to North American standards Israeli toilets still seem pretty minimal (as opposed to much of the rest of the country which can be very 21st century and then some!)
Upscale hotel bathrooms are clearly the best. In all seriousness, make sure your group stops at a restroom whenever you see a nice hotel--the choices later on may be less appealing.
Museums are the next best choice.
The bathrooms in the restaurants I've been to range from OK to truly scary. Granted, The scary ones are in places like falafel joints, or outdoor cafes along city promenades, but I'm talking about walking through alleys I'd rather not have seen to sit in a dark, damp room.
I've always thought that Americans, Canadians are very spoiled with regard to our expectations for public facilities. Most of the world is not that picky and does seem to survive.
One good thing is, you'll never encounter the kind of attitude you might get in a place like NYC where you can't use the restroom at a restaurant or store unless you make a purchase. Israelis may seem brusque, sometimes, but are extremely accomodating, especially for children, the elderly, diabled people, anyone who is sick, etc, and will virtually always let you use their "facilities"

One tip: make sure to bring tissues or small packets of toilet tissue in your bag because many bathroom facilities, especially at bus stations and the like do not provide it in the actual bathroom, you often can purchase it for a small amount from a vendor, but if you have a language barrier, that can be difficult. Otherwise, you should not have a problem.

Israel is not a 3rd world country. I went last year and I am going back again next month. If you go to a nice restaurant, it will have a nice bathroom, go to a dive and that's what the bathroom will look like. Have a great time.
