august safari

I know it's very late to plan a safari for this august, but we can get into certain camps. Does anyone know anything about these as far as animal viewing accomodations, and guides?
Our choices are:chobe game lodge,eagle island,chobe savanna lodge,pom pom,lagoon camp and xakanaxa.
Also, we can spend a few days in Dulini Safari Lodge in Exeter park in South Africa.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. our other option is to book for 2008.

You will have a fabulous time at Dulini Safari Lodge! Do it and spend as much time there as you can.
Cheers!

Chobe Game Lodge--I loved Chobe and saw lots of lions, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, etc. Be sure to do an evening wildlife river cruise. There are boats that leave from the Chobe Game Lodge dock. This will be the most crowded of your stops.

Savanna Lodge--Over the border in Namibia I think but you view wildlife along the Chobe River. I ran into some people who have traveled a lot in Africa last summer and they had spent 2 days there and loved it. They did all their game viewing from a boat. That's one place I want to stay when I go to Chobe again (someday). In fact, I would like to combine Savanna Lodge and a camp in Chobe, Botswana for a total of 4-5 days in the Chobe area.

Lagoon--The Kwando camp? Available in August? Wow! Snap this one up. Never been, but it has an outstanding game reputation. You are lucky there are dates for this one. Stay as long as you can.

Pom Pom--This has changed management several times but has had a rep of being not too fancy of a camp in a decent game area that allows land and water activities. Here is what an agent told me about Pom Pom several years ago. He had clients that were members of a family name you would all recognize but I won't disclose it. They could go anywhere in the world and they chose to go annually to Pom Pom. This could have been just sales talk, but I was asking him about the merits of various properties/concessions and his answers seemed reasonable. He did not use that same line about other places.

If you could get these camps (the only ones I know about) I think you'd have a great trip. This would not be compromising on location just to be able to stay somewhere in August. These would be desirable spots even if time was not running short.

Since you mentioned South Africa, I cannot believe there isn't a Sabi Sands opening somewhere. Maybe Dulini is just fine, I just have no experience with it and Sabi Sands offers such tremendous wildlife viewing.

Good luck and you may get more positive responses on the other locations as well.

Hari,

You’re back or maybe more like still here.

I knew you wouldn’t stay away long after you showed up in my dreams!

http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=34968465

What I did not include in the previous dream expose was that you always sat in back and kept jumping off the vehicle (it was an open vehicle with 3 rows, not 2 like Kwando) and crawling around in the tall dry grass. One of the vehicle occupants was always calling out to the guide, "Stop! Hari has jumped into the grass again."

Just like a cheetah. This really happened. In my dream, that is. I couldn't make this stuff up!

Lynn,

Your safari vehicle dream, reminds me of a story narrated by one of my guides on safari.

Apparently the guide was on a mobile trip with a group of nationality A and a single traveller of nationality B. Apprently this guy was under constant barrage and irritation from his fellow guests, that he apparently got off the vehicle and sat under a tree. The group realized quite a while later and found him a long period later.....and he was lucky to survive!!!

Whether it was a true story or not, it made for fascinating dinner table chat!!!!

Hari

PS: Lynn- Two rows only!!!!

Dreaming of leaping off the vehicle is one thing. Actually doing it is quite another. How dangerous.
