Hi, Just wandering whose next to go to Tanzania I would be interested in your plans and idea's I am looking loosely at June next year but interested in plans and experiences for other months.

We're going July-August.
We did a bunch of reading, came up with a tentative itinerary and the type of trip we wanted to take, emailed ~10 Tanzanian Tour Operators, tweaked the itinerary, asked lots of questions, made more lodging decisions, narrowed the field, asked more questions, narrowed the field some more, finally selected a TO that seemed like a good fit for us and booked the trip--then the airfare.
We're going to Arusha, Tarangire NP, Lake Manyara NP, Ngorongoroo Crater, two locations in the Serengeti, and Zanzibar.

We are going in June. Doing Arusha, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. I have booked through Naipenda Safaris. There are five of us (two 50 yr olds, 30 yr old, 22 yo and 18 yo) and we are doing a fairly high end safari since we are celebrating several things in 2014 and this is our big celebration!!

I was there when you posted your question.

Green season travel in Feb to mid-March is a special time to go because of the wildebeest calving is happening in the southern part of the Serengeti and Ndutu. Ndutu allows off road driving, which is not permitted in other parts of the Serengeti, another advantage.

Abram's itinerary of: "Arusha, Tarangire NP, Lake Manyara NP, Ngorongoroo Crater, two locations in the Serengeti, and Zanzibar" would work well. If you only want safari, omit Zanzibar. Spending one day in Arusha Nat Park to look for colobus monkeys and maybe do a walk or canoe is a nice first day. Your two locations in Serengeti should be Ndutu (south) and Seronera (center) if you go Feb/March.

In June, that same itinerary makes sense. Your Serengeti location should be central, perhaps spending some of your days in the western Grumeti area of Serengeti. The wildebeest migration tends to be in the center of Serengeti in June.

You might also want to consider Aug-Sept, when Tarangire is at its peak for elephants coming to the river to drink and for elephants grazing in the swamps. But during those months the wildes are in northern Serengeti. If you wish to get way north, the cost of lodging is higher because it is all luxury tented camps that offer a location where you may be able to witness a Mara River crossing of wildes. Lobo Lodge in the Lobo area offers the northernmost lodge, less expensive than the lovely luxury camps.

If going late June through Oct, consider Southern parks in Tanz as well if you have enough time and if you are interested:
Mahale for chimps (some of the camps are also open in Feb)
Katavi for huge herds and under 1000 visitors a year
Ruaha, Selous

You could visit those southern parks other times of the year, but dry season is when they are best.

Whenever you decide to go, you'll have a wonderful time and likely will want to visit in some other seasons.

Atravelynn, You always come up trumps and so informative I asked about different times and parks because I am trying to convince my husband that there are other good times and places to go ,but because last time we went in June and had a great time he just wants to repeat, where I would like to try a different season / area Lynda s used to to do a trip report page but I don't see it anymore can you help on that ?

Tanzania Ndutu green season is fantastic. Do give Feb or March a try. Your husband will love it.
