Does anyone have experience using a local Kenyan tour operator to book their travels in the Mara? I am looking to book a private safari, not a group tour.
Any suggestions for a tour operator for Maasai Mara safari?

Yes...... I booked a private Safari with a local tour company.
The whole tour was absolutely perfect.
The locals know all the lodges and what you might want to see and they arrange everything for you.
I toured Kenya ,Tanzani and then went for a week to Zanzibar which I would recommend after a long Safari!!!
Stan booked my whole Safari.
At first I was a bit hesitant sending money over to Nairobi Kenya ...I thought ( like most people do) what if there is no one to meet me at the airport!!!
The trip and the Lodges were all just great and our driver/tour guide was terrific.
Here is Stan's address and e- mail.
And, if you e-mail him please say that Percy recommended him.
Yes he knows me and remembers me very well.
I made a point of going to his office to meet him personally.

The price I paid for my Safari was $1,000.00 less than a tour company wanted here in my home city and this was for a tour group of six people !!!
The private Safari was just my friend and myself.

I used Sandy at Africa Serendipity in NYC. No she's not on the ground but she really knows her stuff! You'll see her informative posts on here alot. More now that she's just back from East Africa.

Gamewatchers, based in Nairobi. Runs eco-friendly tented camps in the less-crowded conservancies. Stellar guides and vehicles. www.porini.com - far exceeded expectations

WARNING note: I emailed Stanley at STANLEY & STOPPER African Adventures for a quote for our tanzanian safari. After I told him it was more than we were willing to spend I received an email saying some relative needed a doctor or they were going to die and please send money to his bank account. To give him the benefit of the doubt I sent back an email saying I was sorry to hear about his relative and he sent back an email asking was I going to send the money? These people want your money by hook or by crook! I was actually stupid enough to send a deposit to JABIR TOURS AND SAFARIS and he said we asked him to send $600 of this to feed orphans in uganda. He said he did this and then asked us for more money. Unfortunately we are more than able to send money around the world ourselves. He is refusing to refund the remainder of our deposit. BEWARE. Will post independently anyway.
