Any news about hot air ballons in Luxor?

Does anyone know if the hot air ballons are operating again in Luxor?
They were stopped that summer due to an accident and I would like to inform some friends of mine that are planning a trip on december.
Thanks

Thank you, Casual Cairo. I missed the ballon ride on August and was a pity.
I will tell my friends to confirm before they leave and not to pay the extra for the balloon ride in advance.

The hot air balloons are not flying. I just got back and was disappointed, but they haven't resolved the safety issues according to our guide. OAT wouldn't let us book it ahead of time.

Yeah, My source wrote to me to say they will begin to fly again on Sunday 25-10-09 Inshaalla. Al Hamdulillah!

Sorry I haven't had any time to post here recently and probably won't much for a few more weeks at least. If you need me, my email is [email protected], but you may have to wait in line for an answer there too.

Just didn't want to go much longer without passing on the good news.

See you all soon.

I was informed by an Egyptian friend that they will never be restarted on the orders of the President himself after the accident in May. It's looking less and likely.

Well, my source owns a balloon company. What does your friend know about it? Is this something he heard as a rumor, read in the paper, or did Mubarak tell him this himself?

Deciding they can't fly because of the accidents would be very Egyptian of him. Let's just ban it and put lots of people out of work rather than solve the problem.

I think they actually solved the problem instead - at least let's hope so.

kind of like "Let's kill all the pigs to prevent swine flu from coming to Egypt"!

Again, a bonehead decision that put lots of people out of work.

Sorry to anyone defending these decisions, but sometimes I just want to SCREAM!

It's a shame they won't try harder to correct the problem and punish the offenders instead of punishing everyone with a flat-out ban. I'm so glad I flew in 2007, it was the highlight of my trip. I hope others will be able to do the same soon.

Thanks for the updates CC.

Yes, the did fly. YEA!
It will be interesting to see what it does to the price. I have always touted Hod Hod Solimon because they are well trained and know what they are doing, but their price was always higher than the rest. I wish more tourists would keep that in mind when they choose a company to fly with - perhaps lowest price isn't always what you want.
At least now any one reading this - please keep it in mind when you pick a balloon company to fly with. Thanks!

I would agree with Casual Cairo, the company I use for tours always tell their guests this too. Because some of the cheaper less reputable balloon people in the past took people up and then straight back down, citing weather conditions! when the real good ones - that were indeed more expensive were able to fly no problem

As my grandmother used to say - buy cheap - buy twice.

Dont take it from a cheap balloonist, they may not be insured

Although in saying that I think probably the government have clamped down on these ones since the review
