Amahoro Tours - OK to wire money??
Amahoro tours are organising our permits for Gorilla trecking in Kigali. These have to be paid for up front and Amahoro don't accept credit cards so want us to do a bank transfer of the money. I have read of a few people using Amahoro and they seem to be reputable but I just want to double check. Anyone any experiences with them and transferring money??
Thanks

Darren,
We wired the money and Amahoro confirmed that they received it OK. One thing - just to be sure, we included the cost of the transaction in our transferred funds. I wasn't sure if I was actually supposed to do this but wanted to be on the safe side for the sake of a few $ more. I would suggest ask Greg if this is required.
When are you going?? We're off in July and can't wait!

Amahoro tours are a decent outfitter.
And the problem with Rwanda is just what you refered to. Very few places take credit cards so wiring the money is one of the few ways to conduct business.
I found out the hard way on my recent trip. I brought my Visa and AmEx along with cash thinking that would cover just about everything. Well, come to find out, upon arrival, when I went to pay for my gorilla permits with Visa, I found out they did not take Visa or AmEx.
Well, crap...no one told me that!
So I had to go to a local bank and get more money out, (a cash advance), to pay for the trekking.
So the moral of this story is to take lots of cash and your Mastercard while in Rwanda.
The look on my face upon learning all this...Priceless! ;-)

We'll just miss you Darren - we're in Rwanda 21st July to 24th! Are you staying in Kigali for all your time there? We haven't booked a hotel yet but are considering the Milles Collines - must get that sorted. We are doing Kenya afterwards - Masai Mara and then Nairobi - that took some deciding as we didn't know whether to do Kenya OR Tanzania. Where are you off to in Tanzania?

OnlyMeOirish,
Greg at Amahoro Tours is putting together a package for us. I believe we're staying 3 nights at the Gorilla's Nest and 1 night at the Chez Lando outside of Kigali. Rwanda is the start of our 3 weeks in East Africa.
After Rwanda, we fly to Kilimanjaro to meet up with a couple friends (they will be climbing the mountain at the same time that we are trekking gorillas). The 4 of us go on safari for a week (Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater etc) then fly to Zanzibar for 5 days. My wife and I then fly to Nairobi for 3 days before heading back home.
Are you starting off in Rwanda too?
Darren

Darren,
Yes we are starting off in Rwanda. We are spending 3 nights in Kigali and then we fly to Masai Mara (via Nairobi) for 4 nights, then it's back to Nairobi for 2 nights. It's a VERY short trip I'm afraid, I'm envious of you having so much longer! The only upside is that we will have to come back to do more of Kenya and Tanzania!
