Alexandria

I am hoping to go there in May. Any advice? I will be flying in from Oman and going out to UK. No cruise shippers please.

No-one replied. Nothing. Nada.

Just to say, I had a wonderful weekend in Alex. Spent one day in all the ancient sites, the Qaitbey Citadel, Kom el Dikka, Pompey's Pillar and the Catacombs. Got about by taxi.
Next day did the Laurence Durrell walk all on my own with LP to help me. Most of the places are no longer functional, have not been since the 50s, but there is lots of atmosphere in the back streets of Alex if you look for it.
Very little English spoken, very friendly and helpful people, very cheap, you have to haggle for taxis, no-one seems to know the way to anywhere, the city is total chaos and confusion.

Anyone going? give me a shout if so.

Me too Thursday. I am grounded until I get my Green Card replaced. A difficult one for me... However have designs on a weekend in NOLA, another In NY and two weeks of cat sitting in San Fran. Should tide me over until the end of the year.
Hope your medical stuff gets sorted and you start to feel better.

Getting the card replaced sounds like a real pain. Good luck.

Alas, I seem to be getting worse rather than better. Did make it to DC for my Global Entry interview but I flew instead of taking the train so I could have wheelchairs (beat you to it) and used Lyft instead of doing much walking.

Oh dear, this is sounding worse and worse. Flying instead of taking the train doesnt sound like you, nor does the wheelchair. Havent used Lyft but my son tells me it is to be preferred over Uber these days.

I intend to get Global Entry but this has been hijacked for the moment by the green card situation!

Could have done a proper TR on Alex as there was a lot more to say. Didnt because I thought there was no interest on this forum. The recent awful train accident brought it to the surface again. Dont even think about it in your present state... I dont think I have seen a more chaotic city recently, it seems like nobody is in charge and things are just running on empty.
