We were at Nkorho when they fired up the uplink. It's great to "go back."
I have it open on my desktop but "shrunk" down so I am just working to the sounds of the bush. Just wonderful! Thanks divewop! J
Jules,
That's exactly what I'm doing, except since I work out of my house, I've got the volume up.
My cats are 'snooping' around the computer trying to find out where
the chirps are coming from. Too funny!
My cat, too. She loves the birds on the Nkorho stream and comes running to the computer immediately.
Oh my gosh I am just dying here listening to this wanting to be there! I too have the volume up but not too much or I will do no work! Only 37 days until we leave to return to Tanzania.
I need to figure out if I can record this in any way to listen to on the CD in the car??! Any ideas?
I can just imagine the cats are loving it!
J
Oh my gosh (my words exactly also) this is exactly what I do not need. Some other addictive Africa thing to waste my time on!
Pretty awesome waterhole webcam, huh? Thanks divewop
Well I've created a monster for myself. First thing I do as soon as I turn on my computer is open the Nkorho cam.
This morning there are loads of wildebeest and impala with bunches of calves springing around all over the place. And it looks like a few rain showers in S.A.
There they go...off into the bush...bye guys!
Oooooh...elles are on the cam now! Raining pretty hard but this is great.

Heading straight to the camera. Now drinking at the waterhole..
Awesome!!
I'm so stoked for my trip.
14 days....
Huge bull ele playing in the dirt/mud getting down on his knees, etc.
This is so cool.
OK...I'm outta control now...need to stop!
But I'll be reporting in with any more cool developments.
Bull ele just ripped a branch off a tree!
Three rhinos at the waterhole!
One is a baby!
Ele alert!
Eles at the waterhole drinking and splashing about!
I can't get this to play on my Mac. Are there any techies out there who can help? Thanks so much!
julia-
I've got a Mac. Don't know if I can help, but I'll try.
Tell me where you're running into a problem and we'll go from there.
Try searching -- there was a Mac and Africam thread too. They might have talked about how to fix it (don't have a Mac so not sure).
I'll do the search. Thanks so much!
Eles at the waterhole again! Just arrived so tune in!
More on the way. Here comes the herd!
I count seven! Wonderful!
This is awesome! I haven't seen any animals yet, my darn work keeps getting in the way. But am truly enjoying the sounds playing in the background. I didn't think I could get more excited about going in a couple months!
Rhino is there now.
Two rhinos at the watering hole!
Is the rhino making that noise - kind of like a little cry or whine?
Yes, I'm pretty sure that was one of the rhinos making that crying sound. Amazing sound on this webcam. It almost puts you right to sleep!
I love hearing the hyenas whelping once and a while.

And ask Sundowner how the hyena sound.
She taught all of us how to do it one night at the Campi Ya Kanzi bush dinner.
Here's a link to another cool cam with Bald Eagles and three new babies. Watching the Bald Eagles feed their babies is cool. They bring up all kinds of goodies, even fish.
http://www.wvec.com/cams/eagle1.html
I keep both cams open on my desktop all day.
And yes, I know I need to get a life!
The Bald Eagle nest is fascinating! Thanks so much for sharing!
Oh yes! The eagle's nest is way cool.
I just switched on the africa cam and there are elephants!
Zebra there now
Poor Zebra was missing his tail. If you double click on the scene it will enlarge to a full screen, but not as clear.
Oh geez, I just saw a game hunting lodge advertisement on their website...that ruined it for me.
Does anyone else find themselves yelling at the camera when it won't move? I know there is something else out there, but the camera won't move to see what it is! It's driving me crazy!! I'm just so nosey!
There has to be somebody at the controls to move it.
Someone is panning the camera as we speak, just like kitykat wished for!
Baboons!
9 eles at the watering hole!
I'm convinced the eles know when I'm watching and stay away.
Lots of elephants--right now!
There were 9--looks like they stopped for a quick drink.
Just caught them as they walked away and disappeared around a bush. See, I told you they know when I'm coming.
Stupid cam keeps looping back to the beginning. What's up with that?
I wonder if the cam operators are on Easter break. They're not allowed breaks.
Don't they know that?!
I believe it's your browser, not the website. When it loops, I hit refresh and I'm back on live.
Nope, I know how to refresh a bunch of different ways and none of them worked.
Although now it's working. Probably a glitch in it earlier today.
Weird, I always have to refresh once the little status bar at the bottom runs all the way across.
It's snowing on the eagles' nest.
Eaglets are getting bigger. All three are still alive. Good news!
Is that snow or their white feathers growing in? I really am enjoying this webcam, thanks Divewop.
I am happy to see that Africam has blocked the hunting advertisements that were being provided by Google. Thank you.
Carla-
It was snowing on them a little earlier today. Off and on since the morning with Mom hovering over the eaglets protecting them from the weather. It looks as if it's finally stopped.
The eaglets are still too young for white feathers yet. They don't sport the white until a few years down the road.
They're still wearing their gray down coats.
I'd guesstimate them to be about 4-5 weeks old and they all look pretty strong so I hope all three survive their infancy.
If Predator Biologist visits the site maybe he can give us an estimate on how old they are.
Good guess Sandy -- the eaglets are about 4 weeks old. Of course the eggs hatch a couple days apart so the oldest has a big advantage over the youngest greatly increasing that one will survive in lean times but with all three making it the food supply is good thus far. The distinctive white heads and tails don't develop until they are 4 to 5 years old.
There is a camera at a nest I work with but it's not a live stream just frequent solar powered photos. Out here in Colorado our eggs haven't hatched but are due to any day now.
http://birdcam.xcelenergy.com/eaglecam.asp
For those who keep missing the elephants, there's a gorgeous one right now! Can't stop watching....
Thanks for the heads up, Bevor. Looks like he's taking off in the bush.
Come back ele...I just got back to the computer!
Just found out that we have our own Eagle Cam here at Catalina Island (the West End nest). My computer screen is filled with webcams!!!
http://www.iws.org/
Thanks for the link Carla-
I've added the Santa Cruz nest to my desktop cams.
They have the eagles tagged on this one. Numbers 26 and 10 and looks like they're nesting on a couple of eggs.
divewop -- Look again!
WOW!
Wow what?! What did I miss?!
Night time Ellie...3:05PM Pacific Time, drank and took off! Mike
I think I just saw a bat-eared fox at the waterhole ...
Now I am addicted to this thing THANKS SANDY!
Chris
You're welcome, Chris...

Aren't you glad I insisted you visit this thread?!
See what happens when you listen to me!!
What are Africaphile friends for?!
Don't forget to visit the eagle cam. Those little guys are too cute. Your better half would definitely be into them!
Yes, I am quite glad you insisted that we check this out. My wife is looking at it too!
I looked in on the eagle chicks earlier today and that was very cool also.
This is a whole new way to spend time at work!
Chris
Bat earred foxes there now
Eles at the waterhole!
I'm in NY and haven't been able to get a picture on "Africam" this morning. Anyone else have this problem?
Others seem to be having problems too.
I'm in ATL and it's been working fine all morning. Weird.
Sun is setting on the cam now.
Confession time.
(sigh)
I had a panic attack today with the eagle cam. Earlier today I saw all three eaglets doing their thing.
Around 5 or so, I could only see two of them and it remained that way for a long while.
I felt this rush of sadness come over me and got very flustered as I thought one had fallen from the nest or something else terrible had happened.
Even the mother eagle had me concerned because she was standing very alert and upright and didn't look like her relaxed self.
Finally after about an hour the third moved back into view from behind the branch on the left of the screen. (Whew!)
I realize I've become *pathetically* attached to the eaglets, having the cam on daily to watch them feed and get stronger.
Guess I'll be flying up to Norfolk soon to make sure they know who their surrogate mother is and to make sure they all survive.
Eagle Cam Update: Tuesday morning, a biologist from the College of William and Mary will be banding the eagle chicks in this nest. Log on between 8:30-9:00 a.m. EDT to watch.
I'm in Colorado until Thursday so someone on the east coast has to watch it. It's a longshot but maybe I'll wake up at 6:30 to see it.
Is that getting a little too attached?
Good news for the eaglets.

Reported April 17th by the AP
The triplets at the Norfolk Botanical Garden are getting a clean bill of health.
"Officials from the Center for Conservation Biology at William and Mary say the two males and one female are growing nicely, are free of parasites and disease and appear "in really good condition."
The eaglets received a thorough examination yesterday. They had their beaks, feet and talons measured and blood sampled. The eagles were also weighed and banded to keep tabs on the eagles.
This is the fourth year that a pair of bald eagles has mated in an 800-pound nest of sticks and twigs about 80 feet in the air in a huge pine tree at the city garden.
Officials say it is also the second straight year that the parents have bred triplets -- a rarity for the federally protected species.
The youngsters will likely attempt their first flight around Memorial Day."
It's cool that:
A) the nest weighed over 800 lbs.
B) it's the second year in a row
the parents have successfully bred
triplets.
Now back to Africam...
Herd of buffalo at the waterhole
Hi - I just saw this and got so excited at the possibility of viewing animals on screen BUT when I went to the website all I got was a blue screen. Is there a special plug I need or something else I don't seem to have? I have been to Zambia and will forever remember the animals. Please help! I'm jealous that everyone is having a great time viewing. Thanks in advance.
Are you on a Mac? If so, there is a thread about what to do: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=4 If for some reason that link doesn't work, search for Africam and Mac and you'll find the link.
I actually use a different link than the one divewop posted and it works so you may also want to try this one: http://www.wavelit.com/index.asp?ch=Wildlife&sh=africam If nothing is on the screen, scroll down and click "back to live screen".
If neither of these help, I'm not sure what else to do but maybe someone else will chip in.
It is very cool. Good luck!
Hyenas at the waterhole.
Has anyone seen this one:
http://www9.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/wildcamafrica/
LOL...I was kind of wondering how it was broad daylight in Botswana at 4:45 a.m. and then I noticed this...
"This season's live broadcast from Pete's Pond has ended. Enjoy these highlights or visit our live Seal Cam."
going 2 Africa, So your are scoping out Botswana on the webcam for Trip #2!
JazzDrew, any trip #2 for you and your family? As I recall, another trip might also mean another vehicle purchase. A Land Rover, wasn't it?
Lynn...I'm sick...I need therapy. LOL
But yes, I am already looking at trip #2 possibilities.
Shane
Eles at the waterhole.
BOO HOO HOO!!! Always the eles when I can't view the cam. ::heavy sigh::
The Eaglets are getting big!
http://www.wvec.com/cams/eagle1.html
I read they should be ready for their first flight around Memorial Day. (And that nest weighs 800 lbs, WOW!)
Aren't the eaglets adorable now?!
I've been watching faithfully every day as they've shed their down and grown feathers and are eating on their own when Mom brings in the food.
When they're stretching and flapping their wings, exercising them against the air, it's pretty cool to watch.
I hope all three survive their first flight.
I think Alfred Hitchcock must be directing today. There are birds everywhere. hehe
I'm sure they're going to pick the eyes out of all of the impalas. Run, Tippi, Run!!! Ok, it's really time for me to go to bed. lol
Ele alert!
Divewop, I just watched the eaglets bouncing up and down (on the edge of the nest)flapping their wings!!! It looks like they are almost ready to fly to coop.
Rhino!
am I the only one that cannot see anything? I am on a mac, with OS X, using the latest version of Firefox. I have Flip 4Mac installed. What am I doing wrong?
Yay Eaglets!!!
Eagle Cam hits worldwide list of Top 10 Web cams, city officials say.
The rest of the story...
http://tinyurl.com/33mz9b
It reached a milestone - its one millionth viewer mark - last month.
Go eaglets, go!!
Way to go Eaglets! Divewop, have you seen any flight action yet? Sure looks like they are getting close!
WE HAVE LIFTOFF! One of the Eaglets flew for the first time this morning...
http://www.wvec.com/cams/eagle1.html
I missed their first flight?!! I've watched them for weeks and weeks and this happened the day I'm on a plane?! Tell me it ain't so!!! Woe is me!!
I was out of town over the weekend but tried to watch a little bit every day.
My flight just got back in now and I'm home so maybe I'll catch them in action.
I thought they were going to fly yesterday when I had company here. I had my laptop in the kitchen watching, but then we had to leave so I thought for sure I would miss it. I haven't seen mom bring them food for awhile so I am wondering if they have to fend for themselves already.
Giraffe alert! 3 or 4 of them!
Eaglets flying all around! I have ENS (empty nest syndrome). Now I know how mom's feel when their babies leave home. They were so much fun to watch grow up, thanks Sandy.
I feel your pain about the ENS! I don't want them to leave! I'm gonna miss those little guys so much. It was so much fun watching them grow, getting bigger and stronger every day.
What will I do without them?!
Lion at waterhole!
what am I doing wrong? I can never see any animal...just thehole, light and maybe eyes?
Try looking at it in daylight -- like between 9am and noon eastern US time. There is pretty much always something there during those areas -- frequently impala, kudu and wildebeest, but sometimes elephants, giraffes or other animals. It would probably be good at sunrise too (like around 1am eastern time), but I am never awake then.
Once it gets dark (early afternoon US eastern time), there are far fewer animals near the camera, PLUS there is no one operating it, so it is fixed in one position and does not move around to see animals in different locations.
Chris
I am just the opposite of Chris. I am usually up during the sunrise time, which is starting right now (11pm, Central time). Sun is just starting to light up the cam. I have seen lots of impala, zebra, the occassional herd of wildees and some kind of monkeys (not exactly sure what kind they are). Saw giraffe once. The one time I did drag my butt out of bed on a Saturday early enough to catch the cam before the sun set, there was an elee on for quite awhile - actually, he remained in the area until the cam was set to "night time settings"
My mom just saw a rhino a few nights ago - in the middle of Africa night or very early morning, before sunrise in any case.
Herds at the waterhole
Sorry, should have said herds of Wildebeast and Impala. Just saw a Jeep full of people pass by! That was a first.
Eagle Cam
Wednesday morning, a tree limb fell on a transmission line during a thunderstorm. Eagle cam is temporarily offline until repairs can be made.
Aaargh!...my eaglets may have flown the coop by the time it's fixed! :'(
Speaking of eagles:
It's people like him who make me wish that humans would become a threatened species.
Bald eagle soaring 'success,' but at what cost?
http://tinyurl.com/3ccd46
By June 29, the government is expected to take bald eagles off the Endangered Species Act's "threatened" list. The birds then would be protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
But Kieran Suckling of the Center for Biological Diversity conservation group said this victory comes at a price -- loss of eagle habitat protection...
One landowner ready for delisting is Minnesota retiree Edmund Contoski.
Contoski, 69, wants to build five log homes on his undeveloped seven-acre property along Lake Sullivan. However, the Endangered Species Act has prohibited development within 330 feet of an active bald eagle's nest on his property -- that covers all of Contoski's usable land.
"Eagles don't pay taxes; I pay taxes," Contoski said. "I'm paying taxes, and I can't do anything with the property..."
You poor man!

fox at the waterhole
rhinos at the waterhole
Nice catch divewop!! Caught them before they were spooked and took off.
Giraffe alert!
Three adult rhinos and a baby!
Ellie alert!
ZEEEBRRAS!
Oodles of Zebras!
I see zebras. Is this live? Is it daytime/daylight there now?
regards - tom
It is 1:30am EST USA.
regards - tom
It's 7:40 am there and yes its live! 45 minutes of Zebras, that was the best viewing for me here
Did you see the babies? They are so fun to watch play and you could hear them too. Now time to go to sleep and dream of Afreekah....
rhino alert again!
more Rhinos!
zebras!!!
Resting Wildebeest at 11:59 am (Africa time)

Now addicted caught the gazillions of Zebra yesterday, warthog a few minutes ago - I am hoping for an Ele any minute
Whew - how does anybody ever get anything done now?
We don't!!
KUDU!
Wildebeest, kudu zebra!!! I can't believe this. I am so excited!!!
rhinos!!
LIONS!!!!!!!!
Yay, I see 'em too!
They must have had a good meal and came for a drink and now are crashed out ...
I can still see the one laying down.
"flat cats"!
LION DRINKING!!!!
MORE LIONS! Camera is moving now too
Wasn't that exciting! Lioness! WOW!
ZEBRAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it's been quite an active last few hours. really cool time to have been watching.
rhino alert
6 rhinos! oh my!
Thanks Carla! Wow!
Just lucky, logged in just in time Sandi. Two lucky nights in a row. Wonder if the lions will return tonight? Have you been to this lodge?
Haven't been but I think Gardyloo has. (See 2nd post at beginning of thread.)
May be worth looking into. I wonder if the lodge lets you stay up all night for waterhole viewing! With all the action lately, it would easily compete with day time game drives too.
Was that a dik-dik that just walked across the screen?
Rhino!
Rhino alert!
baby baboons and saddlebill stork!
elephant alert!
Rhino close-ups!!!
two rhinos, looks like mum and baby
Lots of Zebras....
There are some really loud and strange noises on the "Africam" tonight. Sounds kinda like ocean waves crashing or something. Is it just me?
I think the strong winds have blown all the animals away....maybe to Angola???
someday I'm going to Angola just to see if it's true!
Saw at least 3 or 4 female lions at about 5:30 a.m. Africa time. Wish you could zoom in on them.
rhinos are back!
Is anyone watching the africam right now? What the heck am I hearing? I don't see a thing but I hear water and metallic noises.
Oh good gosh. What an auspicious start to my postings here. It's rain.
Zebras and baboons at the same time!
rhinos!
Rhino and baby!!!!
Elephant!!
He's great! What a slurper
rhinos!
hurry...giraffe!
and zebras too!
3 more giraffes
rhino!
...for anyone wondering what the brownish irregularly -shaped "object" is on the right, just in front of the narrow end of the waterhole: it is ellie-pooh from a huge male I watched yesterday (around noon central Canada time.) Can't believe how exciting it was to watch him drink, spray and - you know - all at the same time!
The rhinos - two and a baby - also show up around this same time every day, and again just after dark in Africa. Yesterday I heard the go-away bird! And last week we heard the hyenas, what sounded like a horrific kill going on, then 45 minutes later two hyenas a the watering hole with hugely distended bellies. Last month, the same thing, but three lions with dragging tummies.
Sandy, you have got me seriously addicted to the Africam! Now if only I could see those giraffe!
7 zebras, 1 warthog, and 1 jackal...all in less than 15 minutes!
Speaking of Rhinos...look Lynn!
3 of them (including a baby)
two adult rhinos...
LOL Caroline, from one addict to another...welcome!
And I'm also an enabler!
Giraffe! Caroline, are you watching?!
Elephants!!
ellies!
Bunch of loud mouths yelling in the background too! Why can't people be quiet and just enjoy?!
They just ran them off. So typical!
could that Jeep have driven up to the ellies any faster to scare them away...and all those abnoxiously loud people...geez!
Oops I posted the same time as you Sandi. That really spoiled the moment, huh? Too bad.
ellie is back
Now gone...camera keeps screwing up...
3 rhinos
ele is back!
rhinos are back
rhino time....
2 rhinos
elephant alert.
Could you please post what time you are seeing the animals (local Africa time). I am in California so I don't see much unless I get up in the middle of my night. It is pretty cool though telling people the birds in Africa woke me up!
Wildlife painter-
I'm on the east coast in Atlanta, Georgia and S. Africa is 6 hours ahead of the time here so when I saw the eles today at 9 a.m., it was around 3 p.m. there.
S. Africa's time is 9 hours ahead of the west coast.
On the Africam home page, they have a clock with the current time in S. Africa.
Add 6 hours to the time stamp on the post. It is ~4:45 p.m. Wed afternoon, right now in Nkorho pan.
rhinos x 2
This morning I went to WVEC's website to load the eagle cam only to find this....

"The Eagle Cam has ended for 2007.
Thanks for watching, and check back again next season!"
They could have warned me!
Woe is me! Waaaaah!!!
Serious baboon family grooming at the hole. Many babies.
Current time: 4:20 Nkoro Pan
I thought I was seeing Sandy's rhino there now but I'm pretty sure it's a hippo.
I see it. Wow!
my rhino...
nice close-up
Sandy and Cindy, I saw the hippo this afternoon! Wow! My first one! Closeups too! Have you seen him before? Isn't it a bit odd for a single hippo to turn up at the hole, no others in sight? Or did I miss something that transpired later? I've started jotting down the times of comings and goings so I can take a peek at work at the right times. Thanks so much for the alerts!!!
giraffes
Herd of buffalo on the way!
Look look look! Huge herd of buffalo in the waterhole!
Jackals!!!
That herd of buffs is the coolest thing I have ever seen on the Africam. I also enjoyed watching the game drive vehicles following them around.
Chris
Bummer I missed the buffalo action but found some photos of it for those who missed it:
http://preview.tinyurl.com/2t5hs9
Lone rhino again! Shall we give him a name?
Well, the swahili word for rhino is "Kifaru" and even though he's in S. Africa, I think that we should name him
Kifaru, or Faru for short.
Any other suggestions?
Given his location I would suggest something derived from Tswana, but I don't know the Tswana word for "rhino." Does anyone else?
Chris
Mom and baby rhino
I think "Faru" is kind of cute! I've found the Tswana word for "white" rhino - it's "tshukudu"...
Lone impala (?) again, same time of day again...this little one really does need a name! I worry about him...
two rhinos! Perfect lil angels.
I see them, but I don't know about "little"...!
Faru is back..
well...was back...that was quick!
i'm another mac user, and i've although i've successfully downloaded realplayer, i still can't get this webcam up. and i'm missing all these wonderful animal sightings!
any ideas? help, PLEASE...............
I don't know anything about Mac but this was posted on the Africam website
http://www.africam.com/wildlife/faq#tshoot_q5
And some more info for Mac users discussed here:
http://www.africam.com/boma/viewtopic.php?t=2740
Carla, thank you! i thought i tried everything, but i never saw the links you suggested. i'm working on it now.
again, thank you, and hopefully i'll be watching the cam in a few minutes.
I hope you get it working nyc. I just saw a hyena leave the waterhole and go back into the bush, then a few minutes later there was a horrific screaming/screeching sound that I wonder what is was or what happened????
After downloading flip4mac, make sure you reboot the computer. That should do it. I have a MAC as well.
CW
buffalo frenzy at the waterhole!
Thanks, Carla!
I just posted it in the lounge too!
Geez, look at them all.
Incredible! Almost blew out the sound system on my laptop
Ok, I am awake now, don't need my coffee.
You can see the people at the camp in the background taking flash photos and standing on the pool deck. That must be so cool for them to see that herd up close.
I was in the other room packing when I heard all the commotion. A good (and welcome) distraction!
The Jeep is right in the middle of them now! Chased them back into the waterhole.
Maybe lions next??? hmmmm....
Whew! That waterhole will never be the same again
(That frog must have had a heart attack)
Just heard a hyena.
LION AT THE WATERHOLE!!! OMG!!!
How does that song go..."the lions eat tonight...."
Sandy, are you still packing?
I saw the tail end of it. (Pun intended!
) When I was packing, my cam looped to the beginning so I missed the majority of it until I figured out what was going on.

But at least I did see it!
Here is the photo sequence for anyone that missed it:
http://www.africam.com/wildlife/sundy_22nd_july_2007_streaming_cam_pics
I am going to be really late for work but it was totally worth it. How am I going to explain I was watching the Africam???
I have a Mac, OS 10.4, latest upgrades, Flip4Mac installed. I have registered with Africam, I think I have done everything, and I have never been able to get the videos. I just get the blue screen. I have given up.
me too!! but instead of the blue screen that says i need a plug-in, now the screen is totally white and doesn't say anything. am i getting closer?
I can't think of anything else to try.
Carla, thank you for not giving up on me!
.
Momliz, keep trying, it's worth it.
What finally worked for me was switching from firefox and cambio, to safari web browser! I should have known
Safari worked! Now I can get it, although there doesn't seem to be any action right now. Who knew - I love Firefox, but not for this, I guess.
Great! Glad to hear you guys are tuned in now. This morning's buffalo/lion action was the best I have seen yet on Africam. I had to explain it at work today and I think I have got some newbies hooked on it now. Maybe the buffalo will come back tomorrow morning (Pacific time)
LIONS are back!
Thanks, Carla
what are those lights in the background?
and those lions were awesome, I guess they are habituated to the game vehicles? I found the lights distracting.
its a leapord
sorry a leopard opps!
Leopard is right! Look everyone!
I see it!!! Wow!!!!
It's moving...here we go...
OK...sitting up...s/he's so beautiful, even in black and white
And it's off. What a treat that was!
That was SUPER COOL. And guess what? it was my first time ever seeing a wild leopard! Hopefully I will have some more sightings next year, but that was really neat to see it on the cam so close.
Chris
I'll say! Thanks so much for the alert!!! Have leopards appeared on camera very often? This is my first!
i have never seen a leopard at the waterhole before s/he was so pretty.
i was soo excited .
what is that noise now?
It's the first leopard I've seen on Africam.
It's hard enough to spot one in the wild while on safari, let alone being able to see one on the cam. What a privilege!
That noise could be baboons warning each other of the leopard's presence.
Liek Sandy, I also think those noises are baboons.
Chris
rhinos, including baby!
...do you think one of them might be Faru?
Caroline-
I think Faru was there earlier, solo.
Drat, missed him! Went on coffee break!
ele alert. To the left of the screen
Eles....splashing about
I find that when I first open the window, I get the blue screen. But, if I refresh the screen, then Africam comes up.
It's so exciting to finally be able to get it!!!
rhinos x 3...
Sandy, I see them!
I emailed them and asked about using Firefox. This is what they replied:
"Our live cams were originally programmed to be used in the MS Internet Explorer browser with Windows Media Player on a PC. The programming does not function well within other browsers. On a Mac, the live cams will work with Flip 4 Mac and Flip 4 Mac operates best within the Safari browser.
We are hoping to have our web programmer set our live cams up so that they can be viewed cross-browser and cross-platform within the next few months.
This can be a challenge with our hybrid live video encoder. Sometimes the
best viewing experience has its limitations, ours are browser specific."
Momliz-
I've been using Firefox to view Africam on my Mac w/ since last Dec. Installed flip4mac and haven't had any problems viewing it.
On another note, the fire is raging again! Yikes!
Fire??!!
I can't figure it out - I think I did everything, and the Mac/Firefox combo just didn't work for me, but the Mac/Safari worked like a charm, except that I'm not seeing a fire.. or is that a reference that I'm not getting...
Glad it at least works with the Safari (appropriate name) browser for you
The fire is right above the tree/bush line at the top of the screen.
ellies! Glad to see the fire is out.
Love the noises!
Check out photo #3 (deck chair)under "image collection" then "lodge album".
I can just picture myself sitting there right now...anyone else? Ahhhh!
http://www.nkorho.com/gallery.html
I thought these 2 photos were interesting, one of the africam tree and the other of the camera operators at the Lodge.
http://www.africam.com/wildlife/the_nkorho_team_sounds_of_nkorho
You can also click on "sounds of Nkorho" to learn what is making the noises we are hearing.
...the sounds are great! (especially the hyenas....gave me a shiver!) Thanks, Carla!
Rhinos
Is it just me, or is the picture totally messed up?
what kind of bird is that? Crow? longish tail for a crow...
rhino alert
Rhino
Giraffes! I love them. My first sighting, personally. Yea!
Giraffe again!
"Faru" is back!
elephants!!!
Zebra...and one with a very large gouge across his belly, looks like it has been attacked.
Zebra alert....
rhinoooooos!
Rhino alert!
...three of them!
...now four!
Somebody get some cheese to go with that cute baby rhinos whine
Could this be Faru?
3 rhino...
i know i should probably know, but who is "faru"?
...Sandy (divewop) christened the lone rhino Faru (short for Kifaru, the Swahili word for rhino), when we were thinking he really ought to have a name!
Carolines,
thank you, how sweet!
now i can look for Faru also (and know what/who i'm looking for).
Five rhino including baby, talking to it's mommy.
elephant alert!!!
my first elephant! there it goes, it must have been thirsty! this sure is fun.
Did anyone just hear the elephant trumpet twice??? WOW!
Yes...very cool. I was kinda bummed when I read that "he" was there, but then gone. Put the cam on anyway, and very glad I did.
Now that would be a "wakeup call" like I have never had before!!! Its 5:43am at the waterhole. He walked in the direction of the lodge too.
Hyena now
if he was too close to a someones room/tent, they might have to make sure those sheets get changed today. lol
...I certainly would like to have seen what he was trumpeting at! or at least, to have seen him do it! Perhaps the hyena got in his way?
That is a fact, g2a!!!!
You Tube clip of elephant trumpeting at hyena at Nkorho waterhole.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ib0OM4hd14Y
Carla, that's spooky! Someone else thinking the same...! Anyway, great to be able to hear the trumpeting again whenever we like! Thanks!
Zebras!
6 zebra...
jackals, now,,,
Eles on the way...I see at least 3!
OK...Five of them...
Ahhh...good morning ellies!
There must be something good in that tree they are shaking!
Now a giraffe...
giraffe now...plus an alien spaceship landing
(or is it my teapot?)
zebra too! What a morning!
I wondered what that whistling sound was too. I thought a plane was getting ready to crash or someone was going to drop a bomb on our waterhole. It scared the crap out of one of my cats!

What a distracting day at the waterhole. I need to focus on my packing!! Focus...focus...be the boxes!
DW, you are ALWAYS packing! (Or at least attempting to) Are you moving to Africa?
Does anyone know what bird makes that noise that sounds like an engine plane starting up? I hear it all the time on Africam.
What were those noises? Scary!
Carla-
Attempting is more like it! Easily distracted, as if you haven't noticed!
Although since I'm moving this week, I need to put the pedal to the metal.
I wish I was moving to Africa (she says dreamingly)!
Going to be joining Predator Biologist in the grand state of Colorado. Well, not joining him per se, just moving there.
Giant close-up ellie alert!
...he's lifted a chunk of wood, is blowing down the hole and retrieving something good to eat!
More close-up elephants! Wow!!!
Wow...nice little herd of eles there!
Sandy, have you ever seen such a grand ellie display on the cam???
oh, see, now you guys are just rubbing it in.

Could that vehicle be any closer?
Single rhino. Is it Kifaru? I can't tell.
Chris
www.pbase.com/cwillis
Elephant alert!
...the big ellie is back!
Okay, three big males this time, two in an altercation of some sort!
Rhino!
Thirsty lion!!
Sorry, got excited, meant lionESS!
anyone know what's going on with the helicopter?
rhino!
Rhino closeup and personal! Wow, how fabulous!!!
that is one thirsty rhino - must have traveled a ways to get to the watering hole?
was that rhino nursing a little while ago?
the one I was looking at seemed most definitely to be male
Waterhole invasion!!!!!
They seem to be awfully quiet -- why aren't the buffs making those mooing noises I always hear them make? Are they quiet after dark to avoid detection by predators?
Chris
Are those fireflies beaming about the buffalo?...I did hear some mooing a few minutes ago, but yes they sure are quiet!
I think the insects you are seeing are moths or other things being attracted by the light associated with the camera. They are being lit up by the light, I think.
Chris
I'm sure you're right, Chris! But they do look so beautiful, don't they!
rhino
what a bully - he just scared away a couple of antelope that weren't bothering anyone
Here comes the herd of housewreckers again
LION!!!!
Thanks, Carla! Boy that's one thirsty lioness!
Wow, those Jeeps come out of the woodwork when the lions come to visit!
For anyone with insomnia....giraffe
Lions!...
lions and a rhino together!
I counted 7 lion. When the rhino finished drinking he walked slowly into the lidst of the pride as if to say, "So who's king of the jungle now?" Then there was a magnificent shooting star in the sky.
The eles seemed to have scared off the lions. I think that "shooting star" was actually a bug or bird that flew through the lights. I see that quite often.
Eles drinking and trumpeting..
Great day for action at the waterhole
Three out of the big five!
I'll take that any day for being across the Atlantic and looking through our little "window" into Africa.
An ele just chased a hyena away...great viewing tonight!
Holy s#$t!!!!! Did you see that ellie charge after the hyena and trumpet!!!
Just tuning in...missed all the action today.
LION CHASED THE HYENAS AWAY!!!!! UNREAL!
The eles were so loud they scared me! And that lioness chasing hyena.... I love this cam! Thanks for posting, and thanks for all of the alerts.
Here come more lions!!! yippie!!!
I can't believe a little duiker came to the WH with all those lions around and didn't get eaten! The lions must have already had their fill tonight.
Lots of fun today, and it's not even a full moon...
Carla, I don't think the lioness could get around the waterhole fast enough to catch the duiker. The pride has returned to the waterhole, now.
I have to keep my computer on "mute" while everyone else is around, so I'm missing all the sounds. On the weekends I work, however, I love to have the sounds of the African night surrounding me.
I couldn't figure out who that was. I was thinking the same thing... Taking his chances.
2 lions now! (though it keeps buffering so I will probably miss any action)
Okay WHAT is that noise?
I'm never going to get any work done....
Hyena calling and lots of lions laying around!
Good to see you back Divewop!
ShayTay, there were 2 other lions in the background near the duiker that had an easy shot. I knew the one in the foreground was too far away though. This is soooo exciting!
Oh, thanks! I didn't get to hear them while there. I slept right through their visit under our sleeping hide. oops.
Wow, I didn't see those, Carla! Thanks for the info. I'm not getting much work done this afternoon...good thing I don't work by the hour!
Good to be back, Carla. Thanks. Though I've still got plenty to do but this is just too exciting today. Have to have my Africam fix, ya know!
Hyena came to drink next to 5 lions laying flat. Now I hear them!
Or are there 6 lions??? Anyone counting?

Sandi, much better to watch this than to unpack...definitely!
At least I got all my errands done today but missed all the action earlier. Glad a caught some of it tonight though.
Was that 2 jackals that slipped in for a quick drink?
The nights are getting warmer, 71 degrees at 8pm. Animals are getting more thirsty = more action at WH
Something has woken up the lions
I noticed that. I thought I heard some kind of critter breathing, coming toward the WH but it may have decided against it because of the lions.
mongoose thought 2 times about getting a drink but left.
Lions all up and growling. Hyena was sniffing around a few minutes ago.
Saw a jackal walk by...
A bug, not a shooting star? It was so quick, and seemed to have a tail, but you're probably right. This is how UFO sightings get started!
They are saying on the Africam forum that these 6 lions are most likely the Styx pride.
One lion up coming to drink!
Ok, its official...there are 7 lions all standing up,,,,thought I heard rhino???
Sunrise coming up and the 7 lionesses are still sleeping around the WH. Hope we can get a zoom in on them soon!
COLORED SCREEN AND CLOSE UP OF LIONS!!!! YIPPIE!!!!
snoozin' and relaxing - that's the life!
BIG FAT BELLIES TOO!~
Wow! Thanks for the alert, ladies! This is incredible!
This is almost like waking up in Africa. Great close-up of drinking lion just now!!
their white tummies look so soft - I wonder if they really are. Probably not, but still, they are beautiful (and thirsty). I love the way they interact.
Is that a wound on the lioness' neck?
Can't believe we are being treated to such close-ups!
My guess is the blood was from an earlier snack.
And they do look cuddly.
...I guess those statements shouldn't coexist.
Bloody snacks...cuddly...! Yes, but that's what makes them so fascinating! And it's so interesting watching their displays of affection towards each other isn't it!
Rats, I just got bumped as the Jeep drove up and one lion growled at it.
sounds like a game drive just pulled up - and one of the ladies is on the move!
OK, back on to see 2 lions eyeing Zebras!
YUM! zebra!
Zebra nearby! lions watching... This is so great.
And I do too love the way they interact. Especially when they think nobody is watching
what's up with the birds freaking out?!
ML, I think those are the baboons sending out warnings. I am still learning my sounds and Africam is helping out alot.
The Jeep just got in the picure and there is no one in it, those people are going to be bummed when they find out what they are missing!
More lion snuggles.
And the birds and/or baboons have calmed down finally!
Is this cam always this good?
So I assume people at nearby lodges could just check the webcam to see what is at the WH? (I'd figure they'd have the capability since they have this out there) So why didn't anyone go check out these lions this morning?!?
baboons makes sense - I definitely felt that something was warning, and that probably wouldn't be a bird.
Oooh, and I have to get up early tomorrow. If anyone is on the west coast, you have it easy! (except for the flights to Africa...)
The people staying at Nkorho Lodge (that is where the cam is) could be watching with their binos or on the cam but I would want to be in the Jeep!
Looks like a few other trucks are there now too.
zebra very cautiously approaching.
Of course of all mornings, tomorrow I have to be up at the crack of dawn for a meeting, why! why! why! now
I have to go to bed, so this guarantees that something really exciting will happen as soon as I leave
Have fun, y'all!
We were at Chitwa Chitwa a few days ago and drove by the Nkorho webcam a couple of times (adjoining lodges) - who knows, maybe we were live on global TV!
Saw mating leopards - second year in a row.
The dam in front of Chitwa Chitwa has a herd of resident hippos and several huge crocs. I'm doing a sor
...Sorry, naughty computer...
sort of a trip report (notes) on the lounge forum - http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessages.jsp?fid=134&tid=35047991
Ah, I didn't realize a lodge was so close, thanks CM. And just saw it on the cam. Gardyloo, mating leopards two years in a row! I'll look forward to reading your trip report in the a.m.
Addicted!
There were no baboon alarm calls, their alarms sound like barking. The grunting huffing alarms were from Impala. The shrieking was from natal spurfowl.
That was awesome lion viewing. My highlight came as I left up the screen during the night with the lions sleeping and as I was in another room on the phone my 12 year old daughter came running in to tell me that she was hearing hyenas! Proud moment that my daughter is identifying sounds with no assistance.
Giraffe...
WOW! Exceptional lion veiwing. And from the postings on the thread, I can see I missed some of the best of it. Came in at 6.15 Africa time, to a close up of a well feed lioness having a drink! Cam pulls back and there's more, there's 7! Some of the best veiwing I've witnessed on this cam.

For anyone interested, the cam is human operated from 6am to 6pm. The monitor is in the bar. If guests are up late and something comes along, the ranger will operate the cam. That's why it only moves occasionally at night.
Did anyone catch the Grand Parade on Tuesday morning Africa time? 1 male and 3 female Giraffe, 4 Kudo males with their does', wildebeast, zebra, impalla all about the plain. To cap it off warthog and juvenile offspring come down for a quick wallow before retiring to the shade. It' was amazing. I had rarely seen it so active.
What did we do before Africam.
Oh Rats!
I can't believe I missed all the action last nite!
Every time I sneak onto the Africam at work people tease me about "nothing going on."
They can't even imagine what they're missing!
3 rhinos ...
Elephants.
Duggaboys at waterhole!!
herd of buffalo..
LEOPARD!!!!!!!!
Sandy, we saw him!!!! What a wonderful closeup! Thanks for the alert on the buffalo herd....without you we wouldn't have seen the leopard!
Oh no! I just switched it off and I'd been watching for ages!!
Lynneb, I know just how you feel! I'm always missing the giraffes! But it's just like being on safari again isn't it? You pull up to a tree having just missed the leopard the people in the other vehicle have been watching....
Wow oh wow! I'm in California and will be leaving to Zambia in less than a month. I, too, saw the leopard this morning. FANTASTIC. This cam is awesome.

And we all posted at the same time! LOL
LIONS on the way!! I can hear them. They better show up!
I can't believe I missed the lions!!! Darn customers come in here bothering me, how dare they!
Yeah, what's up with the customers? Don't they know any better?
One lion came to the WH, laid down for a bit, a a few roared in the background, and that was about it. So you didn't miss too much.
ellie!
and more ellies!
I was upstairs in the kitchen cleaning out the hummingbird feeders and heard the racket from there. Very loud eles too!
E & T are still just merrily floating along
DW- When will you have your Colorado cam up and running? Sounds like you are getting the sanctuary in order!
My game reserve is coming along quite nicely. Mostly birds, squirrels and chipmunks during the day, but at night the action starts.
So far my visitors have included elk, deer, red foxes, gray foxes, raccoons and last night, for the first time since I've been here...a skunk happened by.
I wish I could stay up all night and see who else may drop by. I'm patiently waiting on a bear and an albino deer, both of which have been spotted in the area.
I'll let you know when I get the cam up and running.
scary jackal sounds.
DW...sounds marvelous!
Something lying near the waterhole! Injured? Did I miss something? Or someone just taking a rest?
looks like a rhino? from behind. Hope it's OK!
I think it's OK...just chillin'. There's one in the background too.
yup, I get tired too!
Phew, glad everybody's ok!!!

Thanks guys, caught a glimpse of the lion earlier just as she was departing. Could it be a Big 5 day??? Just need leopard now.
3 more rhinos. Only 100 degrees today at the WH
several hyenas antagonizing several rhinos, interesting.
rhino
siesta time for rhino..while owl comes for a drink...101 today, wow!
I am not sure what happened but there is a dead buffalo with jackals and vultures on it at the WH. Anyone see anything attack it?
I'd love to know what happened if anybody saw it.
I see white-backed vultures - are there any other kinds there? (This makes 18 different kinds of animals/birds I've seen on Africam since last March!)
3 lions at the waterhole. I have a feeling I know what they are eating....
I see them, I see them!
Between the vultures, hyenas and lions there won't be much left of that buff, daylight in another hour.
4 lions drinking now!
Whew!..glad I tuned in so I didn't miss all this action. Thanks!
Good timing DW. I just tuned in too and saw the cats waltz in
It sure was hot there the past couple days, in the 100's but now it seems to have cooled down. I wonder if the buff just was old and had heat exhaustion? No one seems to have seen an actual attack.
OH MY GOD! Does anyone else have goosebumps on goosebumps after that episode!
Here comes daylight. I hope the camera person wakes up earlier and switches to color....daylight lions anyone???
Lordy lordy lordy!!!!
Holy Cannoli...is anyone else hearing and seeing all this?
This is the BEST of the Africam I have ever seen
Man, I wish I was a guest in that lodge right about now!!!!!!
I would be in the Jeep by now, p.j.'s and all
LOL, Carla, we keep posting on the action at the same time!!
LOL Sandy! I wonder if these are the infamous Styx pride that have been lurking about lately???
Could be! All I know is I am jones-ing so badly right now to go back, I can't stand it much longer!
It's hard to see but it looks like one of the lions are standing guard by the carcass. How can these people sleep through all this great action?
Somebody clean off the lens!!! We're gonna miss the action!!!
jackal creeping up on lion and carcass while vultures stand by. Does it get better than this???
Of course it does! Hyena gets into the picture and here is someone to clean the lens!!!!!
Here comes the jeep. Maybe they'll clean off the lens. Oh yeah, they are...
Listen to the hyenas raising all kinds of he*l!!
This is fricken great!!!..stand off with the lions...
This is like a mini-Joubert documentary...
I can't believe all this action!
Are you friggin kidding me!!!! That ranger has the best seat in the world!!!
Lion does NOT sound happy!
Carla, are you believin' all this? It's incredible!!
Unbelievable! Those girls rock!!!!
What! I put the webcam on, and the lions leave
I missed it all!
And the hyenas shall finally feast!!
It will make YouTube for sure...I will find it and post it here when it posts.
I think we have a lull in the action. So much for relaxing before bedtime...now I'm all hyped up.
Here comes the jeep again. A little late for the good stuff. My arse woulda been up an hour ago!
oooh, oooh - maybe I will be rewarded instead with a handsome ranger?
Finally they are all up...but missed all the action!
We keep posting at the same time! I have just learned my first request at camp will be to come and pick my arse up the minute something is out there, no matter the time. Are you still hearing roars??
No more roars...just eles slurping over at Pete's now! Damn, I miss Africa! :'(
Had to pour a glass of wine after that...I will never get to sleep now. Wish I was there too. This was the best night I have seen so far. Going to Pete's to take a peak, God help me!!!
See ya at Pete's!
And what are you whining about anyway?!
You're an hour behind me!
I was hoping to get to bed early tonight since I was glued here last night and only got 3 hrs sleep, what a grouch I was today.
8 water-lapping hyenas.
Carla, is this the same carcass from a couple of days ago? Can't believe I missed all the action yesterday! The first night in ages I went to bed early - that'll teach me...!
Last night was so exciting. There is a re-cap on the Africam Forum of the entire episode where you can see all the videos and sounds if you are interested. Just re-reading all the posts here was fun.
There is not much left of the buffalo. That was so amazing to witness. I was reading they think he died of a respiratory problem and there is a video where you can hear a buffalo the night before breathing very heavy. They had temperatures over 100 degrees those days. That is all I know, it has been an educational 2 days.
Here is the link to the videos and sounds:
http://www.africam.com/wildlife/nkorho_video_and_sound_clips_september_24_september_30
Here are the still photos:
http://www.africam.com/wildlife/tuesday_25_september_2007_streaming_cam_pics
Thank-you, Carla, the videos were amazing. Though I did cry for the old buffalo, poor thing, that tribute was touching. And all the animals gathering 'round...I don't think I could have slept after that! Those silhoueettes of the lions in front of the camp were Frightening!!!!
Herd of eles...
jeep scared them off. lovely.
bump (there have been lions and a male too the past couple days)
...an electrical storm over the waterhole, quite dramatic! But could that be fire in the distance, to the left? The light was flickering earlier, and hasn't disappeared...
Gosh, it's been a while since anyone has posted. Anyway...
Eles....
Hi Sandy! Yes I'm watching the ellies...hasn't there been a lot of rain at the waterhole recently!
Ground hornbills on the africam!!!
WILD DOGS!!!!!!!!!!
Don't tell me I missed them by a couple of minutes?!....crap!....
They were moving fast! There were 4-5 of them and the Jeep has hauling a$$ to keep up. They came back for a few minutes after that. My FIRST wild dog sighting!
Other than today, I found it to be very active week around the area - a beautiful pair of black rhinos yestersday, a herd of elephants (with two babies) the day before and lots of impala, wildebeest and monkeys. The dogs were fabulous. I have not been watching for very long but has anyone ever seen any lions or leopards in the area? It is so wonderful to see the sights and hear the sounds of Africa live! I am getting so excited about our trip in January.
where in Africa is this watering hole exactly?
Wild dogs! OH MY! I missed them! That'll teach me to do things like go to work!
Maybe they will be on one of the hi lite films they repeat. I hope so!
shot~ http://www.nkorho.com/
mcpats~ yes I have seen a leopard once and just recently quite of few lions. Africam has a forum where you can find tons of information~
http://www.africam.com/wildlife/forum
Lilipets- don't you just hate it when work interferes with Africa! Here is the video of the wild dogs:
http://www.africam.com/wildlife/nkorho_cam_sightings_discussion_friday_19_october_2007?page=2
(scroll down page about 3/4's)
Oh no! Another great site! I will never get any work done now. Thanks for the info though. How did someone tape the wild dogs? Do we have access to the camera? (you can tell I'm a newbie)
CarlaM
Thank you! Thank you! I finally watched the wild dog video. What a treat!
giraffes
A huge tusker!
Ginormous tusks!!! WOW!
Can't believe I missed 4 Male Lions today while at work (around 11am PT)!!! There is a video of them on the Africam forum.
Wow, that tusker you guys saw today was awesome!
Checking in today to see if the 4 male lions would come back only to find out I missed a LEOPARD this am. Boy..talk about bad timing. There is a shadow next to the WH...wonder what that is???
Well since there was an ellie visit recently, that shadow is probably a wet spot from one of them
Hyena
3 rhinos at the pond
where in Africa is this watering hole exactly?
Opposite the bar/lounge at Nkorho Lodge in the Sabi Sands reserve adjacent to the south-central portion of Kruger Park in South Africa.
I'm taking an on-line travel writing class through one of our local community colleges, and curiously enough this week's assignment was to look at the Nkorho site and write a short essay using the webcam as a launching pad, as it were. Ironic that we've been there (2nd post in this thread.)
Shall I post my assignment here? Gentle critics welcome; the other kind can go shove it...
Gardy-
would love to see the essay, so please post it! And we're all gentle here on this thread so no worries...
Okay - critiques welcome... really.
The assignment was to watch the Nkorho camera for a time, and to compose 400 words or less to convey what you saw. I went to the cam at 1 AM local time in the Sabi Sands, and didn't see anything. But I heard plenty.
----
It's night at the Nkorho pond. The big October moon of three nights ago has set; darkness conceals all from view, save from the infrared gaze of the lodge's webcam, and from the night vision of those who possess it.
The camera is stationary - there's nobody in the lodge's bar/control room to man the controls that pan and zoom, so the nocturnal visitors to the waterhole flit in and out of the camera's range. If you don't see them quickly, they're gone: it's not a place to hang out if your DNA has put you in the "prey" bracket, and most visitors to the pond are just that.
But sometimes sounds are worth a thousand pictures. The unseen inhabitants of the Nkorho Pan make themselves known with vigor... buzzes and chirps, cheeps and peeps, the distant bark of a baboon. The night is dark but hardly silent. Summer has arrived, and life can't wait around for dawn.
And some of the visitors are both silent and unseen, until it's too late. Unobserved by the camera, maybe there's a Mfezi - a Mozambique Spitting Cobra - or one of its scary cousins, a Mamba, or a Boomslang perhaps, waiting in the brush out past the pond - for a rat or a mouse, or something else drawn for what will be its last taste of water, ever. A flick of motion, a rustle in the grass... too quick, too silent for cameras or microphones. The venom is strong and the struggle is very, very brief.
The camera keeps staring, unmoved. The insects keep singing their ancient songs.
There will be more mice, and more snakes, and more nights like this one, here in Mother Africa.
Wildes and Zebras
Gardyloo,
Beautiful essay!You get an A++++++!
Love your essay!!!!!! You have a wonderful gift for writing.
Large troop of baboons!
Was that a wild dog?
It was a wild dog! There are a couple of pictures posted on the Africam website under streaming cam pics if anyone is interested. It is so great to watch!
bump
I haven't been able to access the cam for the last several days.
Is anyone else having trouble? Please let me know so I can figure out if it's my system or Africam. Thanks!
i had been using the wavelit site. it was not working. right now have the africam site on and it is working. yesterday or friday i kept getting the cam's advertisement over & over.
I found this announcement:
Oh mon dieu!
http://www.africam.com/wildlife/changes_and_new_things_to_come_0
I have been able to get in using:
http://www.africam.com/wildlife/index.php
I like the "new look"!
Divewop...did you see they have been working on an Elephant Plains cam. I am already out of room on my screen for any more cams
Thanks for that update, Carla. I still can't get in with that new link though.
I wonder what the problem is. This is really bugging me now.
Do you have to be a member to access the new site?
OK...I've updated my Mac stuff (flipmac4) and everything else I needed to do and it still isn't working.
Tried it on both safari and firefox and still nothing.
Cleared my cache and history and still nothing.
I don't know what else to do! I'm at a complete loss.
Anyone else with a Mac having success with viewing?
I don't know why they had to change.
Frustrated to say the least...I'm about to give up!
There is a message today that they had a power failure and that the cam is running right now.
I'm on a mac, but haven't been on in a while. I'll try again later once the power is back up. I'll let you know if it works for me.
thanks, hills!
Having no trouble now via firefox:
http://www.africam.com/wildlife/index.php
Did you restart firefox/safari after you downloaded the flip update?
Yep. I have tried everything under the sun to get the cam operating on my Mac again but nothing seems to work.
It was great having the African background noise and picture while I worked and now the silence is maddening.
It's frustrating and I don't know why they had to change but now I can't play anymore. I hate having to say goodbye. :'(
They have me blocked at work now from Africam so I miss having the background sounds too. If it's any consolation DW, the sound has been terrible lately. There are several complaint posts on the Africam forum so you are not alone. The cam has been off and on with storms too. There is always Pete's Pond!
(Sometimes TOO much noise on that one)
Strange, which OS do you have?
Carla-
you know that old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"! They should have heeded that one.
Hills-
I've got an intel-based Mac, a year old with OS X tiger...haven't upgraded to leopard yet...not until I'm sure they have all the kinks out.
I've sat here for an hour now (again) downloading the latest flip4mac over and over and rebooting, like I did earlier today but to no avail, it's not working.
I get a blank white screen and that's it. It shows the time above the screen. I can also access the video highlights (like the eles today) but not the live cam. Totally weird!
Hey! Now I can't get in. Going over to PP to see MY ellies
Well, per the folks at Africam, I just went back and installed a couple more items spending another entire hour trying to get it going, and it STILL isn't working.

I can't figure this out as I've never had problems running ANYTHING on my Mac since I got it and now all I'm having is one problem after another trying to view the cam.
So, unless anyone has any other suggestions, I'm officially signing off of Africam. It was fun while it lasted! Ciao...
...close-up resting fox on the Africam...
Divewop,
Africam, after an absense of a few days, just came up on my MAC. I used the http://www.africam.com/wildlife/index.php link, since they don't go through wavelit anymore.

I've tried everything to get it running on both firefox and safari and nothing is working. I've downloaded different programs, unblocked the ad blockers and pop-ups, put africam on my safe lists, checked to make sure there were no firewalls blocking it, and still nothing.
I don't know why it isn't working for me anymore, but it just isn't.
The administrators at africam aren't any help at all. No one has any answers so I just have to put it to rest and learn to live without the noises (and sightings) of africam in the background.
Such is life...
I just used the http://www.africam.com/wildlife/index.php link (with Firefox 2.0.0.9) and it came up just fine.
Have you cleared your cache?
Elephants at PP.
gard-
that's one of the first things I did.
This just sucks....
Hey Sandi,
Here is one other suggestion that you might try as I haven't been able to get into Africam for about a week now. After you are on the website and watch the ad play, click on the right green box that say Nkhoro Pan, you have to watch another ad but then the cam comes up after. It worked for me this am so maybe it will work for you. Good luck.
my africam has not been working for some time but it is on now. jackel getting a drink.
and now a group of very playful baboons.
Large herd of elephants at PP now.

There is also a lioness drinking and roaring on the Elephant Plains cam right now. Go to the africam link and click on elephant plains.
Just came back home and the lioness is still at EP, roaring away! Very cool. She just got up and got a drink.
5 male lions on Djuma cam again (daylight now) and headed out to see the leopard!! Very exciting!
There is the leopard!
5 male "flat cats" still at Djuma.
Need Buff and Ele to make the Big 5 today at Djuma.
