They run 220 in East Africa and they use a receptical, that in my kit, is the one marked "England/Africa".

That said, I ran into problems using my hairblower in one hotel in Nairobi and at the Serena Ngorongoro Lodge; though it worked fine at Samburu Intrepids and Mt.Kenya Safari Lodge and Windsor Golf and Country Club (NBO).

In those places where I ran into a problem, the hotel and even the Serena Ngorongoro had hairblowers for use by guests.

I didn't have much luck with my curling iron and had to "wing-it" - doing without and survived. Some people travel with curling irons that use Butane canisters (no electric needed), however, have read posts recently where these have been removed from both hand and checked luggage during security/luggage checks.

You can get a "British Elec Plug - model EA23MCG" from Magellans for about $6.85. This has worked for me every place I have stayed in Kenya. I use it for curling iron and camera battery chargers. My hair dryer already has dual controls as I purchased it in Kenya so that hasn't been a problem.

I was considering getting a butane curling iron for this trip but Northwest Airlines said it is a definite NO, NO, even in checked luggage. Thus I just purchased a Tony pony and hair twist from HSN and it will give a dressier look for meal time without any extra work.

The adaptor is great because you can charge your batteries in your own room in the lodges. In the tented camp I take my battery charger with the adaptor and they charge it at the bar for me. No problem.

When you get settled this week will look forward to your trip report. We all know what jet lag can do!

I am due to leave next Sunday evening. However, am nervously watching what Hurricane Isabel is going to do. Some are saying there is a possibility it could hit New England. Just hope it doesn't affect my getting out and on my way! I've had "Kenya fever" for so long that I need to get there to treat it.
