advice on wedding locations in kenya please!
Hi!
My fiance and I are going to Kenya in December for a private wedding ceremony and are trying to decide on a location. We are looking at Governor's Camp or Loisaba in the laikipia. Elsa's Kopje and Sabuk may also be options but we have not had confirmation yet. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!
thanks
Mary

Before you decide where, have you determined what the requirements are for you to be married in Kenya? Do you have to be in-country for a certain number of days prior the ceremony? What documentation do you need? Costs? Anything else? Check every single detail with the Kenyan Embassy in Washington DC beforehand.
If I had a choice, I'd go north to Laikipia - Loisaba!!! Then Sabuk!!! Do check which camp has the "star beds" which should be quite interesting for your wedding night!
Will it just be the two of you or will there be family? How many? Check the size of these camps, as they are all small. Be certain there is sufficient accommodations for your entire wedding party.
Let us know what you decide. And all my best wishes.

I got Married in Kenya 10 years ago at shimba hills lodge, which is about 2 hours away from mombassa, we had to take birth certificates and a letter from our local vicar stating our names, jobs, our parents names and jobs, and also that we had not been married before. i think that we had to be in the country a week before we got married. All in all the wedding went really well, it was very laid back, non of the stress that would have come from a wedding in the uk, have a great time and enjoy it.

How many will be in your wedding party?
Governor's Camp is pretty large so if your wedding party is small it will mean you're sharing the camp with lots of strangers. Personally I'd not want to do that.
You might consider Little Governor's Camp or Il Moran instead.
I don't have experience of Loisaba or Elsa's Kopje.

The website for the Kenyan Embassy in Washington DC is http://www.kenyaembassy.com/. According to the website, a non-Kenyan wishing to get married in Kenya must be resident for 21 days OR you obtain a special license. Take a look at http://www.kenyaembassy.com/consular...iage_death.htm which I have reprinted below
Requirements for non-Kenyans wishing to conduct a marriage ceremony in Kenya
Non-Kenyan parties wishing to conduct a marriage ceremony in Kenya are required to produce the following documents:
1. Birth certificates
2. Valid passports
3. Decree Absolutes (if divorced)
4. Death certificate (if widowed)
5. Separate Statutory Declarations sworn at a Solicitor's/Notary Public's office, stating the fact that one is single and free to marry. This should bear the solicitor's signature and official stamp.
6. Parental consent in form of legal document for persons below twenty-one (21) years of age.
7. Residency in the country for twenty-one days. If this is not possible, a Special License could be obtained beforehand by contacting the Registrar's Office in Kenya.
The contact addresses for the
Registrar's Offices in Nairobi
and Mombasa are:
The Registrar of Marriages,
Department of the
Registrar General,
PO Box 30031,
Nairobi,
