Adopting and Elephant at David Sheldrick. Should I do it before I leave or while there?

I was thinking of adopting an elephant at the Elephant Orphanage. Should I try to do that before we leave or can I do it there, when we visit. We are leaving this Saturday, so I would have to do it soon.

Can I adopt an elephant and then come back the same day to tuck it in? Do you get to pet the little elephants or is it mostly just watching them?

I am planning on adopting an elephant regardless, but I am trying to decide if it is worth missing time from our short stay at Giraffe Manor to do this, since we are going there earlier in the day before heading over to KWS.

Thanks, Heather

Since you have so little time and in case you are still online Heather.... others have advised that you do it before you leave so that you can visit the orphanage in the early evening when it is less crowded and open only to foster parents..... if you are going at lunch time and can't change that plan, it wouldn't matter. If you want to wait, you'll certainly get first hand experiences on this, but there was recently another thread where this was discussed and that was the conclusion.

Thanks. I always get stuck trying to figure out which elephant to adopt. I will be sure to do it before I leave. Do you think I should skip the lunch time visit all together and just try for the evening?
Thanks, Heather

Don't know the answer to that question. Here's a link to one of the posts I was thinking of

Thank you for the link. I ended up adopting an elephant last night and e-mailing them about a visit. They have already e-mailed me back wondering which day I would like to make the reservation.

Thanks, Heather
