Acidic mine water threatens infrastructure and wildlife

I saw this in a Canadian paper this morning. I hope they figure it out before it destroys the limited water supply and infrastructure. I had not heard about this before.

Of course it should be the mining co's (plural) responsibility, but it doesn't sound like it can wait for endless litigation.

Any Fodors locals know about this? Would love to know if it's being discussed, and if it's as bad as it sounds.

Again - why don't my tags post? S/B South Africa. (I'm on an iPod and I tag it! Really!)

Huh, maybe I don't understand your questson? But-

I see your post tagged South Africa.
Maybe Fodors gets it tagged correctly but iPod reading it doesn't?
Look at your post on another terminal/monitor and browser.

regards - tom

ps - I copied what I see on the/your posting. Here it is but not formatted the same.

It's late, I'm bored, not sleepy enough to hit the sack.
Here is a snap of what I see of your posting. Tagged, whatever.

It is a serious problem and one that has been largely ignored until the media got hold of it. They are trying to address it as it is a very serious problem which if left unchecked will lead to huge sink holes all over jhb. Wild life in the estuaries nearby will also be affected. A catastrophic catastrophe if left. Government are aware of it, but have been ignoring the warnings from environmentalists until now.

Tom - sometimes they get tagged later by the editor. Thanks editor!

Kim - keep us posted. I hope the mining co's ultimately pay for it, but it sounds like this needs to be dealt with ASAP!! There are enough water issues in S Africa, this is one that doesn't need to get worse.

Wow - no one wants to pay for it, so nothing will happen to stop it. Then what? Thanks for the post.
