Has anyone been to Lion Hill Sarova and Lake Nakuru Lodge at Lake Nakuru?

Any recommendations between either of them?

Any suggestions?

Have been to Lion Hill, but years back. It's since be refurbished, but a recent report mentioned rooms seeming a bit worn. Whether only this posters particular room or others, can't say.

The grounds are lovely with view of the lake thru the trees.

You may want to take a look at Flamingo Hill Camp (tents and aout 2/yr old camp) or Mbweha Camp (stone banda cottages). Believe these should be in the same price range.

I was at Lion Hill last year, it is quite nice. The semi detached mini bungalow style rooms are not exactly high luxury but very clean and comfortable, warm service (as I found in all the Sarovas) and the food is excellent. Location is great too. Would definitely go back again.

If not, it may be worthwhile staying at Nakuru lodge - anyhow you won't be sleeping while waiting at the waterhole

&amp; to answer your question:
Generally speaking, Lion Hill has an advantage... rooms vary much in Nakuru lodge (if they haven't taken some special actions lately).they also used to overbook as a policy &amp; i've slept too many times at staff's (including manager's) rooms

PS we need to be updated if the GFH still frequents the lodge's ater-hole lately as it did for years...

WE stayed in The Lion Hill Sarova last year and thought it was a wonderful lodge. We LOVED our room. We didn't see any wera and tear and in fact thought it looked lovely and was spotless. The only very minor thing I can think of is that the rooms aren't huge but are fine in size for us. The food we had here was fantastic - the best of all the places we stayed in Kenya.

We stayed at the Naivasha Sopa &amp; the room was awesome, but the drive from Nakuru was horrendous.

We've stayed twice at Lake Nakuru Lodge - Christmas(es) 2006 and 2004.

We like it there, but some people may find it large. It is very busy at lunchtimes because the group tours travelling from Samburu to the Mara seem to use it as a lunchtime stopover. Meals are buffets with a lot of choice - particularly good for vegetarians who like Indian food.

I agree with Aby that the rooms may be variable. We have stayed at what I think are called the 'superior'rooms. They are sort of Scandinavian looking with lots of glass and wood - glass sliding doors along the front, opening onto a wooden verandah. These rooms are on the perimeter and have very good views down the hill into the Park. You have to walk past the other type of rooms to get to them. They look older and are round, being split into 2 rooms. They look as though they might be a bit dark, and they don't have the same view - some of them look onto the gardens though.

We like it that local Kenyan families stay and come to eat there (and see Santa!)as well as travellers.

Wingi and others who have stayed at Lion Hill. How much was the cost per person and what did it include? I'm planning on visiting Kenya Dec 1-13th and cannot seem to find decent deals. Any tips on websites/travel agents to get a reasonably priced booking would be greatly appreciated.

I was at the Lion Hill Lodge at Lake Nakuru 4 months ago and it was vry nice.

I had a nice cabin up the hill and so the view throgh the trees was nice and it was nice to sit on your private deck in the shade.

Food was good, no complaints there at all.

We went through a tour company out of Arusha and the price we were quoted was $ 1,000.00 less than any price I was quoted back here in North America.

I think if you deal with a local Tour Company you get a better deal !

There were just the two of us so this was a private tour... along with just our very good driver/guide and a nice Toyota Land Cruise.
Beer ( Tusker ) was cheap at $3.00 / 500 ml bottle !
