90 good reasons to visit Kwando (pictures)

Hi
I want to take the opportunity to wish all of you a good and prosperous new year.
I would also like to say that I have enjoyed all the valuable information that has been shared and I have spent many hours watching the wonderful pictures wishing I was back in Africa.
The pictures were taken during my last trip to Kwando in September.

O...M...G...

The lioness cooling her heels under the 4x4 is amazing -- could use a bit more info on that please. Is that a coffee mug behind the jeep, and does it belong to the lioness?

it is a rock lying behind the vehicle but I am sure that the Lioness would have appreciated a drink There was a lot of flies in the area so the Lioness took refuge under the vehicle to get away from them. This is also the reason why they climbed the tree

Michael,

Some nice images. standouts for me are the Pearl Spotted owl, buff with entourage of oxpeckers and the leopard coming down the tree.

Did you do any post processing in photoshop or similar? The colors look a bit flat.

Geoff.

I used a CAnon 20d with a 100-400 mm L lens for most pictures. The rest were taken with a 10d with a Sigma 24-70 f2,8.
I did some post processing in photoshop mainly adjusting levels.
The Leopard shots in the tree were taken early in the morning and I barely had enough light had to use high ISO and slow shutter speed. The Owl shot was taken late morning and the light had started to become quite harsh.

You saw everything and captured magnificent photos of it.

What Kwando camps were you at and how long at each?

All the predators were dining and exhibiting some questionabale table manners! You did a great job of stopping the action in so many different mammal shots as well as some bird shots.

I think that leopard thrown in with all the cheetah in the first slides was a test to see if we were paying attention.

This trip was a spotted cat spectacle, with even the elusive serval. And then the non-spotted cats do something interesting like climb in the tree or under the vehicle.

What a collection!

Lynn, thank you for the kind words.
I posted a trip report in the middle of September called "Kwando did it again". However I cant find the report anymore.
We spent 2 nights at Lagoon, 3 at Lebala and 3 at Kwara (+ 2 at Songwe).

I remember the Did it Again title and report. It's hard to match up pics, reports, and the people's names.

With those pictures, I thought you had stayed for weeks! That's really encouraging that a standard few nights in each place produces such diversity and abundance.
