11 days in Ethiopia w/18-year-old nephew? North or South?

I am taking my nephew on a trip for his high school graduation. He has not traveled much outside of the U.S.; I travel extensively and have been to Ethiopia before (years ago). I want him to go somewhere now with a bit of adventure and to save Western Europe and like places for when he is older.

We are thinking of two options at this time: Ethiopia or Morocco. If we do Ethiopia, we would have 11 full days on the ground. Any thoughts on what would be best for an 18-year-old: north or south itinerary?

If you have been to both Morocco and Ethiopia, feel free to weigh in on which country you would recommend. Or feel free to throw out any suggestion. For reasons too detailed to explain now we are ruling out Asia.

Thanks for any input. I really want to give my nephew an amazing trip!

I haven't been to Morocco and Ethiopia so I can't compare for you. I have been to southern Ethiopia and would love to repeat that trip. Here is a trip report and the link to pictures is at the end. http://www.fodors.com/community/afri...omo-valley.cfm

Ethiopia is a very interesting country, both North and South are worth a visit bu I wouldn't take a teenager who didn't travel much to Ethiopia. I would recommend Egypt. It is an amazing country and has lots of good deals now because people are afraid to travel there though no problems with tourists were reported.
The other country that I would visit first is South Africa.
What about Israel? It is full of history/archaeology.
