Hello,
I've finally decided Morocco would be my destination this year but i had to move some dates in order not to be in the middle of Ramadan for the whole duration. If all goes well i should be there between July 1st or 8th until August 4.
I was wondering if experienced visitors of this wonderful country could give me a few pointers.
My main reason for traveling is mainly to photograph colors and portraits and i would really love to at least spends a few days in the Sahara interacting with berbers. Colors and interacting with locals is very important for me! As for the rest i'm pretty much open to anything.
If any fellow photographers actually live there and wishes to spend some time that would be great too.
I really hope i could also get by with a lodging budget of around $25-30... I might even try couchsurfing.
Thanks for all your tips and opinions.

I don't think that couchsurfing is available in Morocco but I do think that you can find cheap digs around. It is going to be extremely HOT when you are going so be prepared. We were there in December 2010 and were wearing short sleeved tshirts, capris, shorts and roasting to death at times.
I would highly recommend a stopover in Essaouria on the coast for beautiful photography, wonderful restaurants and riads, the famous "goats in the trees" looking for Argan oil and fabulous coastlines!
If possible, you should try to move your trip again so you won't be there during Ramadan which is July 20 to August 20. You should be OK, but tempers can be short at that time of year. You should not eat, drink, or smoke in public. Daytime will be very quiet and night lively. Have fun !

here is your best choice, www.imagesinthesun.com , Darren is a professional and real photographer man i'd recommend to take a trip with him.
We went and part of our trip was during Ramadan and it was really okay. Photography is my thing and I had scoped out several ideas ahead of time, including a trip to Chefchaouen and a visit to the Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech. People photos were the hardest as many Muslims did not want to be photographed at all. We also liked Essaouria, the desert trip on a camel, Marrakech, of course, and overall I found Morocco to be an exceptional place to photograph. I have photos printed on canvas and a collage of photos in my office. I have various locations with photos at my site: www.pattyroth.com if you want some ideas.
