A great base from which to explore the historic Kampong Glam area, which is within walking distance, Bugis buzzes with a youthful energy that gives it the vibe of a university town. It's also a shopping hub known for its youth-friendly stores, where you can find everything from costumes to game arcades. The area has come a long way: it was Singapore's red light district until the 1980s, when the government transformed into the flourishing retail precinct it is today.
